This pillow was woven by the Cooperative Tisseuses of Ain Leuh.

This women-only weaving Cooperative has existed since 1977 and was one the first weaving cooperatives officially recognized in Morocco. As of today, it is comprised of 24 full-time members. Fatima-Zahra, pictured, is is one of the most senior members of the Cooperative.

Ain Leuh is located in the Mid-Atlas Mountains and is known for these intricate Zemmour Hanbels which is showcased on the front of the pillow.

Woven with 100% sheep's wool, the colors are a combination of hand-dyed wool as well as pre-dyed wool bought from the local Souk. Yarn used for tassels.

This labyrinth-like weaving technique requires the highest level of skill and concentration. Each symbol that makes up the design is derived by an intricate system of counting. Listening to the loom and weft be woven together sounds quite similar to a plucking of a guitar.

Each pillow is one-of-a-kind, made from a vintage textile that was woven in the village.
